Changing Lights

We are changing lights and coordinating them for the show.

Bad Night Sleeping

Went to sleep a little after ten as usual. Then some massive storms rolled in a little after midnight and hammered us for hours. Rain, hail, high winds, lots and lots of thunder and lightning.

I don't know what time I feel back to sleep but I am sure that I am very tired right now and slept for less than half the night. It is going to be a very busy week. Three days of dress rehearsals and then three performances. This is the busiest week of any show. Next week will be easy since it only has one pick up rehearsal in the middle of the week and two shows.

Yes this is going to be a long week but a fun week. I'll be exhausted by the end of it but in a good way.

On my brackets, I have picked all four Final Four teams on two of six brackets! I have no idea who is in what place but we'll soon see!

Man Hall Of Fame Part 19

This honorable induction into the Man Hall of Fame was very pre PC. Political correctness is the collective neutering of the American Culture. It is ushering in the nanny state which knows how to run your life better than you do. It will keep you from learning important skills and deny you from overcoming problems since you won't be equipped to do so....but that is a subject for another blog.

This inductee liked to show ingenuity, adventure, survival skills, and out and out fun! It also showed evil getting beat in the end, bad guys were shot and blown up and all in a......cartoon!

Johnny Quest, his friend Haji, Race Bannon and of course Dr. Quest along with Bandit jetted around the world conducting experiments while stumbling across the proverbial plots to take over the world and stopping them! In the mean time henchmen went down faster than the French border under threat of invasion.

They were usually shot, blown out of the sky, blown up with the main villain in their lair, or just disappeared and all at the hands of the Quest group. There were no helmets for riding bicycles in this show, no knee pads, no elbow pads. These were manly kids. Role models for a future generation!

Unusual Day

Well I got home from a typical day at work yesterday to see that the neighbor's dog, a little part chihuahua had gotten out and was running around the block. It is pretty much a puppy, less than a year old. I was in a hurry to get to rehearsal since it was starting earlier. I also didn't want the dog to get hit by a car or run off.

So I rushed around and caught the dog. I thought the neighbor would be home by the time I got it caught but he wasn't. I had to go and I didn't want to put the dog back into the fence since there is a big rottweiler in the fence and I couldn't get the dog back in there.

So I have a pet carrier and put the puppy in that and put it in the neighbor's drive way so she would be safe and he would find her. Then I left to get to supper and rehearsal which lasted until nearly eleven. We ran the whole play from start to finish starting at around seven thirty.

It went fairly well as the actors were off book during the whole play. They only had to ask for lines occasionally or we went back if large parts of dialogue were skipped.

Overall it was a successful rehearsal and we will be running the whole thing again this evening!

Tired

Rehearsal went well but over the past few nights it has gotten out later and later. I didn't get home until after 10:30 last night and didn't have much time to relax before bed.

It helps me to sleep if I can do something to relax my mind so it isn't still working when I really want to sleep. Anyway we are going to run the entire play tonight and tomorrow at six. Every night from here on out Misery will be run in its entirety.

The leg mold was a dismal failure. The top half was just too thin and it broke at the shallowest parts. We cut the leg off of a mannequin and cut the foot off of that. We will build it up to look like Beersnob's leg and airbrush the bruises on it.

I know I can do that part.

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Hi Ho Hi Ho

Its off to work I go this morning. I feel up to it. I'm feeling a lot better about going back to work this time than I was a couple of weeks ago when I shouldn't have.

Rehearsal went a little long last night. I am hoping that the leg mold will work. If we can get the two pieces apart again without breaking the top piece then I know it will work. It is just a matter of carefully handling the top piece which had a crack in it when we first tried to get it apart to get Beersnob's foot out of it. We could use an extra two weeks of rehearsal. We only had four weeks for this rather complex production instead of the normal six weeks.

It took me a while to get to sleep last night but when I did it felt good and I feel decently rested today. I'll feel better once I get back into the swing of getting up this early and such. It'll take me at least next week to get back in the groove again.

Last Day Off

And I feel pretty decent.

I've got to go get an award for the play today. Catina arranged for us to use it, I just have to pick it up. Tonight we are going to do the top half of the leg mold.

I don't have a lot of plans today really. Just enjoying my last day of recovery. I was pretty right about recovery this time taking less than last time. That stent made a world of difference. I've blogged quite a bit about it already so I won't get into it again.

My throat is sore, I think they scratched it when I was in, it makes me cough but I don't have a cold. My sides hurt from coughing but I am not sick. It is a strange feeling.

Leg Mold Blues!

This is going to be one half of the leg mold that we are constructing
for Misery! We are doing the top half tomorrow night!

Not Much Planned For Today!

And it feels great!

I have no responsibilities today except to rest and go to rehearsal tonight. Yes I do plan on going to rehearsal. All I have to do is sit there and watch, offer comments occasionally, and let the director bounce her ideas off of me.

The set is mostly built now, it is just the detail work that needs to be done. The next time that heavy lifting will be done is when we tear the set down in a few weeks. I'll be 100% by then.

I think I'm going to watch Stargate: SG1 though, that is about the extent of my plans I guess. I mentioned the other day that this was probably one of the most underrated scifi shows ever. It doesn't have the epic story lines of Babylon 5 but it is very entertaining. Most of the story lines are gripping and very well written.

Come on, how many shows last ten full seasons? Not many. Not many at all. It is just such a cool concept that you can get up in the morning, drive to a gate that will take you to another planet, come home, and do the whole thing the next day again.

Yeah, love the show!

Good News, Bad News

The good news is that that stupid stent is gone and I feel pretty good this time after lithotripsy!
I little sore like a bruise but I feel pretty good overall. No cramping, no irritation, nothing like that.

The bad news is that the big stone on the right side is smaller but still there. Big enough to not pass and I'll likely have to do this all again in a couple of weeks.

I don't know yet, I have to call tomorrow and they will let me know what they are planning to do about it.

Today Is The Day!

I finally get this stupid stent out. I go in at noon, they do the left side at two and pull this stent.

After today hopefully, I'll be done with all of this kidney stone business for a long long time! I'll be drinking lots of water each day. I've been getting used to that anyway.

Like a thousand ounces a day, some insane amount like that. Yeah, its crazy.

My brackets, I believe, look like middle of the pack brackets. A couple of upsets hurt, like when UConn got beat. Georgetown really hurt too, I had them in the Elite Eight on all six brackets. Likely everyone else did too though. When I'm going to make up ground is that I have all four top seeds winning the championship. So if the Final Four goes perfect then perhaps I have a shot.

I'm all set for the next few days here at home though. I have plenty of water, I plan on watching Stargate SG1 on DVD (This is a great series, very underrated in terms of good scifi) and I have painkillers. I plan on being off until Thursday. Without a stent going back in on the left side I shouldn't have the discomfort I had the first time around. I was just miserable. Recovery should be faster this time around:)

Happy Easter!!!!

I hope your day is filled with hope, love, joy, and peace! The most important day on the Christian calendar is today.

I'm probably middle of the pack in my brackets so far. I'll know better probably by tomorrow after today's games. The sweet sixteen will be set after today's games.

Set call went well yesterday, we really accomplished a lot! We all had a nice lunch afterwards and bonded as a cast and crew. We are all familiar with each other anyway so we really don't have to bond anymore but it was nice.

Later in the evening I went to a meeting to talk over the fanfilm project which has lost a lot of momentum but might actually be picking up again. After that I just drove to a couple of places to try and find something to help me kill the down time over the next three days off of work.

Saturday, March 22, 2008

Finished!

I figure there are about twenty thousand four by four squares on these
walls. That might by a guess but that is what it felt like!

Painting

This is the stencil we are using on our walls for Misery. We have two
four inch by four inch applications to do two big walls. Yes it is
taking some time.

Man Hall Of Fame Part 18

Today's Man Hall of Fame entry is someone I've blogged about before. It is high time that she is inducted into the Man Hall of Fame and today is her day! She is the perfect and rare combination of brains, beauty, and creativity.

She is someone you could take out on the town or to a pub after a hard day of blowing things up and be equally comfortable. Yep, home to mother or on a around the world adventure, she is your girl and she could probably save your bacon several times along the way!

This is the female MacGyver of her time! Give her a straw, bottle cap, and a blank DVD and she could take over the world, blow up the bad guys, and make it look like fun!

She is a talented artist in her own right and she loves explosions! She is a science geek chick but she could easily be on a Paris runway! Kari Byron, Mythbuster, artist, and just plain out and out hottie!

Kari Byron takes her well deserved place today into the Man Hall of Fame! Congratulations Kari and welcome!

March Madness Has Begun!!!!

I'm 15-1 on three of my six sheets!!!!
I've only lost two teams going into the next round on two other sheets!
My upset sheet is a mess though.

No big deal. I'm in a great position so far and I hope to continue it well into today's games!

I'm off for a preprocedure appointment at the doctor's office so I am going to get the supplies ready for attempting to make our fake foot mold on Monday evening! That is going to be fun! I can't wait to get going on that!

Thursday, March 20, 2008

It Is My Friday!

Yes my friends, after today I'm off work until next Thursday! Tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment to get ready for Monday. Yes my vacation leave has fallen dramatically but I recover it quickly! In about seven to nine weeks I'll have it all back.

Rehearsal went well last night! We ran the first act without a book and even through some hiccups occurred it went pretty well! This is coming together faster than I thought it would! It is a complex production and very involved. There is a lot of direction and timing issues that all have to be addressed and it is working well right now!

The director is doing a masterful job right now and I'm basically staying out of her way. She has the vision of how it should look and is relaying that vision to everyone. It is our jobs to see that it gets done that way.

Rehearsing The Fight

This is our fine actors rehearsing the final fight scene!

Rehearsal Has Gone Great!

Last night we did the ax scene for the first time! This scene and the final fight scene will now be practiced twice before every rehearsal starts from here on out. For two reasons:

1. We will be using a real ax, even though it won't be sharp and Beersnob's leg won't even be there as we are using a prosthetic and a hole in the mattress for his real leg, IT IS STILL AN AX on stage.

2. The fight scene has to look real and the only thing that will make it do that is to practice it until you are sick of it.

I personally feel a lot better. The stent has settled down I guess and it is much easier to go to the bathroom. I'm still drinking a ton of water each day. I'm still looking forward to having it removed though. I can still feel it occasionally.

March Madness is all set now! Mt. St. Mary's beat Coppin State in last night's play in game and they will now have the dubious honor of being beat by North Carolina. I filled out six brackets at work! In all of them except two I have every number one seed making it except Memphis who I think is vulnerable against Texas who will be playing in Houston.

First Day

Back at work and it wasn't bad at all. No pain pills yesterday either! I slept like a rock!

That cinches it, the lortabs have been messing with my sleep and I'm done with them until Monday! I don't need them as much anymore. The stent, while still uncomfortable at times is something I can live with as long as I drink water.

I am thinking next week will be a breeze now! I am sure my right side will hurt a bit after the removal and probably be a bit bruised but other than that I am gold! I am used to the rest of it now but I'm still taking until Thursday off.

Rehearsal went well last night! We got into the second act now and are about to get to the ax scene! That will be fun! We are also getting the stuff together to make the mold for the fake foot! I can't wait until we do that!

March Madness Is Upon Us!!!!

I love this tournament!
I've blogged about it many times before but this is one of my favorite sports events of the year!

I'll be filling out at least four brackets at work! Maybe one or two online, and watching as many games as I can! I'll be off work this coming Friday so that will be at least a full day minus the time I have to go to the doctor about my next procedure on Monday that I'll be able to watch and follow the games on TV!

Thursday I'll be listening at work on Sirius! This is so much fun to watch! I even watch the play in game which usually happens on Tuesday night however this Tuesday I'll be at rehearsal and won't be able to. That is like a double good thing though, if I wasn't involved in this wonderful show with my friends then I'd be watching a game at home by myself. I think I'd rather be with my friends though!

By the way everyone, Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!!

The Cult Of Tom Cruise

Are back in full form in this video! Check it out as these wacko cultist idiots harass a camera man who is critical of the cult of scientology, whose most famous crazy member is Tom Cruise of course.

It is always funny to see scientologists in action! They come off with a unique gestapo style that would surely make the Nazis proud! I love these little nuts! These whackjobs will keep people scouring the net for hours finding clips like this to just prove how nutty they are!

I found a clip of where the cult of scientology throws a big birthday blowout bash for Tom Cruise but honestly it is really more Cruise having fun than acting all nutty like normal. You can find it if you search for it but I chose not to post it here. Yeah he does sing and dance but again that isn't couch jumping crazy it is just celebration more than anything else.

I can't wait until the next Crazy Cruise clip is put out there! You know that they exist! You know that some disgruntled member who just paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn about Xenu and feels totally ripped off now has access to Cruise on tape being his normal crazy self and wants to get it into the hands of those who want to post it! It is just a matter of time:)

The Set

This is what it looks like with the walls up so far!

Set Call Week Two

Today the walls are going to be put up and decorated properly. It will start to take shape!

It rained last night before and during rehearsal. It was nice to see it rain again and not freeze! It was gorgeous warm yesterday! I felt pretty good with the exception of the occasional bathroom usage.

Well I'm off to set call now with plenty of water!

Friday, March 14, 2008

Well

I decided to take today off as well. No it isn't becoming a habit. I felt good after I rested and the stent settled in some the other day.

I know after going to work yesterday for a half day that I have limits on what I can do right now and what irritates it. I know that no matter how much work piles up at work (and it was) that I'll be doing it when I return or at least the bulk of it.

It is just the natural way of things at my work.

I went out for lunch today. I'm glad to finally be eating semi normally again. I feel better when I eat some. I still dreading going to the bathroom though. It really sucks! I can't emphasize that enough.
The recovery after the procedure on the twenty fourth should be a lot easier this time around though and I'm looking forward to that.

I Made It

A half day at work before I started to feel uncomfortable and decided to come home before it got bad. Honestly it hurts a lot to use the bathroom and after drinking all of the water I am supposed to, well it is a natural occurrence to go in abundance.

At home I have lortabs to dull the uncomfortableness but I don't take them on my job for many reasons, the least is that they impair you and it isn't safe to drive on these things.

They do help a lot though and to go a few hours without them right now tends to bring on the pain and wears me down. They told me at work that short term disability would have been a good idea in my case and I could have taken off next week and not have used up a lot of leave and wouldn't have had to worry about work for a couple of weeks.

I confess that if I had known what this stent would have been like I likely would have done that. I know the doctor told me it would be uncomfortable and irritating but I am getting to the point of dreading going to the bathroom.

On the upside I have had a lot of people ask what they could do for me and check on me again. I know I told you all that it makes me feel good and when I was at work today and they told me their similar experiences and felt for me, it again made me feel good:)

Well It Is

My normal time for blogging, getting up, showering, getting ready to drive to work. I haven't been all week.

The stent isn't very sore this morning. Maybe it is finally settling down. Maybe it will just take some moving around before it gets irritated while I'm at work today. My second surgery is scheduled for Monday the twenty fourth! They will remove this stent on the right side and break up the left side. He said there would not be a stent on the left side which would make me tap dance with joy if I could tap dance.

I really was not very sore from the lithotripsy as I was from the long piece of flexible plastic that they left in there. Eleven days left before it gets removed.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Getting Easier

The stent which is causing most of my discomfort isn't as bad as it was. That isn't to say that I don't want it out. I want it out now.

I can feel it, it is uncomfortable, irritating and causes spasms if I don't drink enough. I am only saying that it isn't as bad as the first evening when it caused cramps all night.

Hopefully it will only be in there another week or so.

I've also had a nonstop train of people checking on me which has been really nice! It makes a guy feel pretty good!

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

That Sucked

The procedure wasn't bad at all. I was out cold during the whole process.
What sucked was last night. The temporary stent they put in to keep the passageway clear kept on causing cramps all night.

I literally only slept seconds at a time. Even with the lortabs to aid my rest I was in quite a bit of pain. I am not sore today but that stent is bugging me quite a bit!

I have just started to eat again this morning. Not much of an appetite last night. I feel OK today. I have to drink a lot of water, take some antibiotics, and take it easy.

Monday, March 10, 2008

No Water No Food

Now until after the lithotripsy is done.
This is going to suck since I've been drinking a ton of water to keep it from aching. I go in at one and it is scheduled for three.

Not sure how long it is going to take or if I'm going to be as sore as a friend of mine says I'll be but I do plan on trying to make it to rehearsal tonight. I'm scheduled off work tomorrow but if I'm up to it then I'll go to work.

I just don't know what I'll feel like and for how long right now.

Sunday, March 09, 2008

Stupid Daylight Saving Time!

I know I know, I rant about this every year.
I hate daylight saving time!!!!

We LOSE an hour of important sleep!!!! This is the part of the year I feel like I don't get enough sleep. It lasts all Spring and Summer! I don't like it!

I like my sleep. Makes me feel good.

The Set

These are the flats we have just painted. This is the view from the
green room behind the stage.

Set Call

This means we start building the set this morning. We have to go to storage and find the flats we will need. Those are the walls we will use on stage that are easy to put up and take down.

We'll paint them a aged yellow to look like the interior of Annie Wilkes's house. Then next time we'll start to put some old wallpaper on part of them. It will be elaborate when completed. We are also using window flats with these big triangles behind them. Each side will be painted with a seasonal scene and will be rotated during the show to reflect passing time.

This is going to be a good show and one of the most elaborate stages ever seen at this theatre!

Rehearsal Went Well

Last night. It is going very smoothly in fact. The actors are looking off of the book more and more now and they are becoming comfortable in their roles. Well as comfortable as you can get in less than a week so far.

This is going to be a fun show! It has been fun so far and it is getting better with every rehearsal.
I'm still drinking tons of water. Probably eight to ten bottles per day now. I've lost count actually but it is a lot.

I just know that the key is that if I drink lots of water then there is no pain and that is good.

Thursday, March 06, 2008

Night Off

Last night was a night off from the production. I enjoyed it by drinking lots of water after eating with Wendy at La Salsa. Later on I drank more water and watched Ghost Hunters on Scifi.

I plan on drinking lots of water tonight during rehearsal and fulfilling my assistant director role.

At work I do small amounts of work in between drinking lots of water and many many bathroom trips.

Dynasty: Alive

Hilary won three states she desperately needed last night to keep her campaign afloat. Obama had a golden opportunity to drive a stake through her rather cold and icy heart and failed to do so.

What this means is a out and out bloodbath between the two until April 22nd when the Pennsylvania primary happens.

They will continue to pour millions into their campaigns to beat each other while McCain just has to sit back and enjoy the fight. He now has the ability to pick and choose his battles without taking many hits at all.

Keep in mind the general election isn't until November people. There is a LONG way to go yet. Keep an eye out for Clinton's campaign to try and humanize her more, more late night TV shows, more humor, more viciousness as well. The Clintons will savage Obama. Also watch for Obama to start to get some tough questions about what change means and look for him to start to stutter when answering tough questions he clearly isn't prepared for.

Man I love politics!

Tuesday, March 04, 2008

Today Could Be The End Of A Political Dynasty!

And I hope that it is. If not today then in the next couple of months anyway.
If Hillary Clinton is beat today her lifelong big for becoming the President will be over with for good. She'll be told old to run in four years and be relegated to an also ran in the Senate. Yeah she'll have Senatorial powers but will not have the sway she once had after running for two years.

She'll likely have a strong challenge the next time she runs for Senate and find herself vulnerable as the DNC tries to jettison all vestiges of the Clinton years. She is riding a wave of unpopularity now and is the most polarizing figure in modern politics. No matter who you are you love or hate her with little in between.

Barack Obama will likely be the nominee since I really believe that America is tired of two Bush Vice Presidencies, one Bush Presidency, two Clinton Presidencies, and two more Bush Presidencies. Another Clinton, let alone one as shrill as Hillary, is the last thing America wants.

It is also possible that today won't settle the Democratic nominee. If Ohio and Texas are split then the battle could carry on for quite a while. That would seemingly be good for left wing Republican candidate, John McCain.

While he would set back and start the campaign for being President, the modern socialist party would still be fighting amongst themselves and likely continue to get nastier and nastier. The Clintons don't like to lose. Either way it is going to be entertaining! So tune in tonight to election return coverage and witness either the final nail in the coffin of the she beast OR the continuing and nasty struggle to socialize America!

Big Stones

The doctor said I have three stones, two large, one on each side and a smaller one on the right side.
I'm scheduled to go in next Monday and have the sound procedure to have the right side and largest stone pulverized.

Two weeks after that they will do the left side. He said I needed a lot of work done, LOL!

Busy Day

I've got to get my cat scan results and take them to the specialist today at 9:45.

Then I've got to stop off at city hall to pay the hanger rent and water bill. Get some duct tape, I'm out...busy weekend...

It looks like it is going to snow today. It figures it was in the 70's yesterday. It stormed last night and was windy all night.

Get Smart

I have spent most of the weekend thus far watching this legendary series in marathon style!

I purchased the complete series on DVD, man I love TV on DVD, anyway this is one of the great TV shows of all time. It is slapstick funny, has heart, isn't PC at all. In fact some of the jokes can be a bit risque.

It would be very difficult to do a show like Get Smart today. They drink, smoke, kill people, and do it in a cartoony childlike way. This was when adults were allowed to be adults. People weren't offended at the drop of a hat and thin skinned like they are today.

The difference is that now if something cutting edge is put out it is for shock value, be as offensive as possible to the point of parody. Get Smart was far different in that it was a reflection of what was going on at the time. Men were men and didn't have to apologize for that fact.

Don Adams was a masterful comedian. There is no doubt the show was Don's vehicle even though it was Mel Brooks' brainchild. Barbara Feldon was gorgeous! She was elegant, funny, and girl next door at the same time! She played the perfect straight man to Adams' comic jabs.

Get Smart ran for five full seasons of at or almost thirty episodes per season. You can see that while the show was vibrant and funny the first three seasons it was starting to slip a little bit by four and five. Not to say they were sub par seasons, four and five were still far better than most of what passes for TV today.

You can find the set on Ebay and it is easily worth the money. Each season has a ton of special features. The transfer is bright and saturated with colors. The show has never looked better!
Get it, you'll love it!

Man Hall Of Fame Part 17

Today's induction to the Man Hall of Fame is a fictional character. He is arguably the baddest of the bad in the Marvel universe. Yes there are those who are stronger, some that are faster, some might even be meaner but none of them are as beloved by the comic book reading public as Wolverine is.

An on and off again member of the X-Men he is generally one of the most fascinating characters in nearly any storyline. With his unbreakable adamantium skeleton, extendable claws from his hands, and a healing factor that allows him to heal from nearly any injury quickly, he is a force to be reckoned with and remains near the top of popular Marvel characters.

Wolverine's past was a complete mystery up until the Weapon X storyline revealed a large part of it but kept some parts still secret.
Wolverine is one of the best examples of a character that turn out to be so popular that people just craved to read more and more about him. That doesn't happen all the time. Some characters just flop and never take off and some are good if not great but just can't approach the popularity of a Wolverine!

Welcome Logan to the Man Hall Of Fame!
