Deadliest Catch Done?

The best show on TV might very well be finished now. Captain Sig Hansen has quit the show to show solidarity with the Hilstrands who have been sued by the Discovery Channel.

The absolute best reality show going today is in serious jeopardy of failing now. Along with the Hilstrands, Captain Sig, and the late Captain Phil were on from the get go. Now with the original cast gone barring a settlement before shooting begins next month I might very well not watch anymore.

Yes Jake and Josh Harris signed up again for another season however the show can't follow just one boat around, there are multiple storylines happening at once. The other boats that they have put on to supplement the big three just seem to come and go with no emotional attachment by the viewing audience.

Yes you have the Wizard and Captain Keith but sometimes no one just likes the guy. He comes across differently than what he might be in real life or something but he just isn't portrayed as a sympathetic character. Which is very weird since Captain Sig comes across as a real life Captain Bly and people like him. Probably because of Edgar, his brother and a very sympathetic character.

Last season we saw how crab fishing caught up to him, his body couldn't take anymore and all season long he started to lean toward retiring from the boat. We may never see if Edgar followed up on his thoughts now or not.

What I know is that if Discovery doesn't reach out and try to settle this they stand to lose a massive viewing audience.

Dead Rising 2

What an incredible game!!!!!

If you thought Dawn of the Dead was Romero's best movie (as I do) then you'll feel right at home with this game. Yeah it starts off hokey because of the reality show bit and all but it doesn't matter because a few minutes after that you are in a mall killing zombies!

There are safe rooms but not many, nearly anything can be turned into a weapon or combined for a bigger and badder weapon!

DR2 is a dream come true, so much better than the first game it's barely even the same. Yeah there is a story during the game but who cares, what's important is the zombie killing mayhem that you can inflict. After a few minutes of exploring the mall I found a tomahawk, chef's knife, crowbar, and various other objects. What would be especially great if you could download your local mall's map and have it populated by zombies.

I mean our mall is close to zombieland anyway. Hard to believe it's still open really. It would just be great to see it in a game setting and wreak havoc upon it!

If you have a game system and are a zombie fan as I am then I'd highly recommend this game to supplement your interests. You can't go wrong here!

What Happens?

Once you feel you've peaked, what happens next?

Here's why I'm asking. In twelve years I'll be able to quit my job and retire with a decent pension provided the Feds don't figure out a way to take it first and waste it in the social security program.

After I retire what do I do? If I indulge myself for even the first month, drink coke, and eat doritos and cheetos I'll get bored with that fairly quickly. Granted I'll probably still be a gamer of some sort in twelve years and that'll give me something to do while The Flintstones are on commercial break.

Travel? Everyone wants to travel once they retire. Good idea! I've been reading up on Belize and how Americans are moving there as it is very easy to do. The national language is English, home prices will really stretch your retirement dollar until it screams for mercy, food can be a bit high but there is always a cost of living trade off somewhere.

I really believe Belize could become a winter destination of some sort. Tropical, mild, coastal, gorgeous beaches, great diving if The Date and I were so inclined to scuba dive.

Belize is definitely on the list.

More than what I want I know what I don't want.

A co-worker recently quit work. He had just had enough, close to retirement age but still a couple of years away. He had worked there since sixty eight except for a stretch in the Navy.

Another co-worker and I took his retirement plaque over to him and we asked what he planned to do. He himhawed around over the question indicating he had no plans but to sit in front of his TV and that was about it barring a home repair that would occasionally creep up.

His house long paid for, no family to take care of, the occasional friend to road trip with. That was about it. He's in decent health so he probably has another twenty to thirty years left in him...that's a long retirement of watching TV.

So that's what I don't want outside of a Flintstone marathon on Boomerang from time to time. Really underrated show that holds up well even today:)

Yes I am thinking about it now as the way time flies by twelve years will be here in a blink if I'm not careful, it will be for you too.

Two Wins

I'm undefeated in the keeper league and I'm two and one in the main money league. Not only that but I'm in second in points in the money league this week and it appears I'm tied for third right now in the keeper league this week for money.

Not a bad Sunday at all! My teams did well, The Date survived her weekend of being cared for and her headaches (a side effect from having a needle jabbed into your spine)and the weather was pleasant.

I saw the results of set call, in two hours they accomplished a ton. They assembled the main set walls already and there were only three of them with one of them being Thing 2! This set will be finished very soon at this rate.

Feeling pretty good this morning. I like fall, it's awesome weather! Makes me happy!

Week Three

After a trade to the Knights of Doom I think my team might be a little more balanced. I gave up Megatron Calvin Johnson (my keeper WR and an elite player in the NFL) for Ahmad Bradshaw, the top RB for the Giants. This will compensate for the lack of RB depth I had.

My WRs were solid even with the loss of Johnson. Johnson was expected to put up monster numbers this year as he and Stafford were building a rapport. However Stafford was injured and now will be out up to six weeks. This only hurts the value of Johnson.

Meanwhile with the Giants, Brandon Jacobs is unhappy with his playing time as the former number one RB. Bradshaw came on last season and took over the starting spot from Jacobs. Still splitting carries during the first two weeks Coach Tom Coughlin doesn't take well to disgruntled players and Jacobs will surely be sidelined for a while. This is a huge opportunity for Bradshaw to have a breakout season as the lone RB.

So with all of that said my lineup looks like this: Keeper league is Brady, Bradshaw, Tolbert (with the injury to Ryan Matthews Mike Tolbert will carry the load today in San Diego as I dropped CJ Spiller), Floyd, Royal, Welker as my main lineup. Gostkowski as the kicker and the Vikings D/ST.

My main money league will look like this: Brees, Greene, Stewart, Austin, Boldin, Smith as my main players while Kasay and the Eagles handle the kicking and D/ST.

Three of the four teams I drafted in the Keeper league are in the top five including Cool Runnings in first, myself in third, and Da Broads in fifth overall. The East Rutherford HEMI is plowing along with his "All Niners All The Time" strategy which has him in tenth overall out of the twelve teams.

Better

Yesterday was very busy. Took The Date to the pain management clinic in the morning and she had shots in her back to ease the pain that's she has had for months. By evening they were working and her pain was vanishing other than the spot they inserted the needles.

On the way back home she rambled on about lumberjacks and where they lived. She pondered why we don't have more around here and that they could fix the roads if they did. Then we arrived home and it was beddy bye time. She slept for a few hours.

Thing 2 had a bad headache for a while, just to be on the safe side we called her doctor and asked if it was normal. They said bring her in immediately so I did. They examined her and said she was healthy but gave her some headache meds anyway. They worked:)

The Date's car was also taken into the shop, turns out the air conditioning bearings are about to go out. They had an easy way or repairing them if a local machine shop had the bearing in stock. They said it'll save a few hundred dollars if they did and they have only had a couple of compressors that they couldn't replace the bearings on instead of purchasing a whole new compressor.

By Monday we'll know if they can fix it or not but I'm prepared for the high and low estimates.

My shoot went fairly well last night. Well considering it was a princess ball where daddies bring their little girls to the ball for food and pictures. I got some good footage and it wasn't as bad as originally feared. My head didn't explode from sugar plum fairy overload.

This morning I've taken Thing 1 to Saturday school, I'll be taking Thing 2 to set call at nine, and The Date to work at ten. Tonight I've got a one off show to tech for at the theatre, four cues and in front of the curtain. It'll be a snap.

Up And Around

I've got seasoned roast and peppers cooking already for supper tonight. I won't have time between taking care of a drowsy The Date and a shoot from six until eight this evening to do much about preparing a meal so I've done it now.

It's going to be a busy day. Taking The Date in for her procedure on her back this morning, will take her home and tuck her into bed after that and monitor her. In between times I've got a couple of errands to run.

Then as I mentioned I've got a shoot at six until eight, I'll be there around five thirty however to prepare and set up.

I don't believe I've got anything at all going on tomorrow though! I'm thrilled about that! Hopefully The Date will be up and feeling like brand new!

Nothing Much

The Date goes to the doctor tomorrow to have a procedure done on her back. It's a minor thing but it'll have a great effect on her as she's been in some considerable pain for weeks now.

That makes today my Friday as I'm taking her there and then taking her home and putting her to bed to get better.

Thing 2 has been sick the past couple of days with a kidney infection. The Date took her to the doctor two days ago and she got all kinds of medicine to fix it including a shot. This morning she appears to feel better as she gets to go back to school.

She's got a project of some sort today and gets to wear her kimono. I was never this excited to go to school. In fact I really didn't care that much about my education until after I had dropped out of college.

Since then I've done a decently good job of educating myself, not in generalities and courses I have no interest in as the public and private system do but in subjects I have a specific interest in.

I've read tons of classic novels, have more theology books than a few pastors, I've got film skills, I can paint a car or small aircraft in less than twenty four hours provided I've got everything to work with, I can do minor engine repairs, I'm prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse of Doom, have a great understanding of politics and how what comes from Washington effects me and those around me, and I'm undefeated in the Keeper fantasy football league.

By my measure I'm a well rounded individual:)

Although I did make a colossal error last night during a Starcraft match. I walled up what I thought was a curving ramp, protecting me from a triple Zerg rush only to find out my ramp was on the opposite side in the shadows, leaving my base wide open to attack. I've played that map before and I knew where the ramps were. Needless to say I was the first player eliminated that game.

The Ballad Of Frank Taylor

I've got to admit, my latest fascination at work on my iPhone is Frank Taylor.

Frank is a Lifecaster on Justin.tv. He believes that putting up a cam in his house and several more around his place, including his car, are well I can't say anything bad since I'm actually watching him.

I think I'm addicted to watching for his skullet. His hair in the back is long and wild like a sexy pony. His tousled mane screams play with me! He's 80's personified. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at our local Wal-Mart on any aisle.

It's almost like having your own gerbil aquarium on your iPhone except he's a guy who sits on his couch! It's fascinating stuff to just watch him sit with a laptop. Who knows what mysterious thing he is looking at on his laptop! It boggles the mind at the possibilities!

As I'm blogging this right now I've got the Frank on one monitor with his trademark crooked picture behind his skullet graced scalp, lava lamp over his shoulder, a kitty in the background, a dream catcher between him and the fridge dangling wistfully in the Florida breeze with Whitesnake in the background! This is amazing!

Nothing is happening but can I tear myself away from the monitor? NO WAY!!!!!

Honestly Frank seems like a decent guy. Maybe someone I'd have a drink with even just to ask him some questions about why Lifecasting appeals to him and so many others who feel the need to be the next Jennicam sensation. Although Jenni has long since moved on from Lifecasting to living presumably.

Frank Taylor's Lifecast is just fascinating and yet I feel strangely weird because this is voluntary voyeurism. Admittedly I blog each day about my personal life. Lots of times I get pretty personal about things but to live in front of a camera all the time? But who in their right mind would want to watch me watch TV, play Starcraft, or blog?!?!?! Good grief I'm a boring individual and you should have better things to do with your time than watch me.

I'm fortunate to have the readers I have with all of the mundane subjects I throw out there but mundane gains a few levels with Frank Taylor's lifecast. Seemingly happy and content with his viewers gazing in on his world, chatting away the hours that lead to days. Days that lead to weeks.

Lifecasting fascinates me.

Starcraft went ok last night, Abotstang and Tequila had a 2-3 night in 3V3. We rolled over two opponents and got 1V3'd once. Not good as we underestimated the opponent. We'll do better when we play again.

One More Day

I captured third in the keeper league once again this week...with a tie. Yes I tied last week as well with Skate. This week it was with the Dodge City Legend's owner and former Storm manager Ten.

It's early in the season and the first three weeks or so only mean you are compiling points, it's not a good indicator on how your team will preform in the meat of the season. Once the offenses click and start to dominate the defenses a bit then you'll see your scores start to hit their average and you can make better decisions on benching players.

Well for the first time in a bit I played Starcraft last night. Our 2V2 team is still ranked 9th overall. We actually played some diamond league players and got walloped. I don't know why or how we haven't gotten promoted out of Bronze league yet but we've beaten most of the people in our own league. If the team we face is usually Silver league or below, we easily beat them.

I'm not sure what it's going to take to move up and Blizzard keeps that stuff a secret. With all of that said we didn't do well last night and it was my rust that was showing. I wasn't as efficient as I should have been during my builds, I wasn't microing my units as I should have, I left my base wide open for attack too much, and I know I was frustrating my partner.

I'll be better tonight though. Today is patch day for the game, my build times will get nerfed and hopefully the overpowered Terrans will get a lot of nerfing. They build way to fast, their units just dominate too much, their T1 units are cheap and can shoot land or air. My T1 units are land only until I get another building and then I can use Stalkers which are a land/air unit.

If the Protoss gets nerfed down too much you'll see a lot of players switch races. Terrans are just very powerful and can build very fast. They need some longer build times to balance things.

One Win

And likely one loss. I've won my keeper league match up 56-44 also leaving me in second place in the league thus far in points for the week.

In my main money league I'm trailing 50-13 and I have my QB and a WR left to play tonight. Very unlikely I'll catch up with that lead. I'd need roughly four bonus TDs to come close.

In the keeper league I'm clipping along at 96% efficiency meaning I'm starting everyone that scores the most points and not leaving points on the bench. That's pretty decent and tops in the league.

I was offered a trade though which I've accepted and now it goes to a vote of the league. I'll give up Calvin Johnson and in return get Ahmad Bradshaw. I'll have to drop Beanie Wells which won't hurt me much at all. He hasn't played yet this season. I could drop CJ Spiller but as a rookie he still has some potential to get points and would fill in on the bye weeks.

Wells on the other hand has likely lost his starting job to Tim Hightower and won't be carrying the ball unless he really breaks out on every chance he is given.

Week Two Lineups

Yes fantasy fans and owners everywhere it's the magical week two of the NFL season!
The first week jitters are a memory and the oddball scoring is out the window. Offenses are catching up to the defenses now as they gel together in real game time.

In my main money league I'm starting Drew Brees, Shonn Greene, Jonathan Stewart, Austin Miles, Steve Smith South, and Vernon Davis. Feely as my kicker and the Eagles D/ST. Should be a formidable lineup IF the offenses click that didn't click last week.

In my keeper league I'm starting Brady, Moreno, CJ Spiller, Malcom Floyd, Megatron, and Wes Welker. Gostkowski as my kicker and the Vikings D/ST. This team might be a little weaker but if the WRs play as they should I can eek out a victory in my weekly. If the RBs get anything it should be frosting on top of the WR cake.

Yesterday was one busy day. I shot the Divas and will be editing that footage this evening and getting it posted. Mom's yard looks good. The show is officially over and set strike is the only thing left to do and that's this afternoon.

Hopefully it won't drag out into a big four hour strike and will go quickly. The more people attend the faster it'll go. Yes I'll be missing some football while we are at the strike but again hopefully it'll go fast!

So The Busy Day Begins

I'm up, took the dogs out, fed the kittys, and now I'm charging the battery for the shoot at eleven thirty. I've got tape and the equipment gathered up and ready to go when the time arrives to head out to the location.

After that it's helping my mom with a little yard clearing work. Then at seven I'll be heading up to the show to run the sound. One of my tech wonder twin teens is working evenings and can't make it.

Regardless we did the show last night and it went well enough. Actually the show was better than it has been up to this point. It had a flow to it that has sorely been missing.

I'm off to take a shower and get the day started, it'll be a long one.

Busy Weekend On Tap

A show tonight, a shoot tomorrow around noon, then I've got to go help my mom haul off some branches and such at her house, then a show tomorrow night. Sunday is church and then striking the set which means I won't have a lot of time for football watching.

I've got Dearly Beloved to tech for and the very small Love Letters in a couple of weeks to tech lights for. After Dearly Beloved closes I'm on break from the theatre for at least three months. No tech for me, I'm going to be finished until a show piques my interest.

December will soon be here and that means Beersnob will be returning home. Upon his return the business will start to fulfill its potential that I'm laying the foundation for. He talks to people, he enjoys chatting with clients, I don't.

I pack up equipment and shoot. I edit and produce the product. I don't like talking to people. I don't enjoy finding clients but he does. We have our skill sets but we haven't had much time to employ them before he shipped off to Iraq.

He did discover Skype though so it'll be easier to keep in touch and bounce ideas off one another.

The Sons Return

I know I have the second episode DVR'd but I was able to watch the premiere!

Samcro has returned for its third season and the first episode took you on some ups and downs. I really had my doubts about this current kidnapping storyline until the last couple of minutes when they downshifted and put the hammer down, throwing you back into your seat!

Without going into any kind of spoilers I can't really tell you about it other than it looks like a familiar face from The Shield will be more regular and if you rile up an outlaw biker gang then you are headed for trouble.

I mean how many times do you take the high road in an argument but really wanted to take the low and confrontational road? The Sons always take that road and you cheer for them to do it! It's a weird gimmick for a series but it works well, you cheer on the traditional bad guy.

I have high hopes for this season now and I know it won't disappoint!

A Chill Evening

Came home, ate some pasta salad I had made the evening before for supper. Then I headed outside with a cigar (Greycliff 2 Tubo) and a scotch, along with The Date's Kindle.

I've been reading Lucifer's Hammer and it's a marvelous story! To start it takes a snapshot of lots of different lives before Hammerfall. I'm not to Hammerfall yet but when it happens I'm assuming that it'll follow the ones who survive into the new world of rebuilding.

It was just nice being outside in the mild temperatures. Felt good.

After that I came back in and The Date and Thing 2 were preparing for rehearsal. I logged into Starcraft and we went 4-2. Not a bad evening at all!

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Two Wins

Yes I won both match ups this past weekend:
57-33 in the Keeper League and 23-20 in my main money league.

Not too shabby. Week one is always an oddball week for scoring though. The offenses are behind the playing curve but the defenses are in better shape to compete so there are either low scoring games or a defense is blown out.

Around week five you can accurately gauge your team's performance much more accurately.
Week one though you just play your top draft picks barring injury or suspension. It's simple. People tend to over think the room though and be clever, don't do it. Just play your players that you drafted high.

I was a little bit down yesterday. I was feeling that everything WAS on a treadmill that never stops. Every day that passes was just another day to mark off of the calendar towards a mythical retirement in which you'd have money coming in for bills and less responsibilities to worry about.

Is that what I really want though? To just give up, get a bottle of whiskey on the way home each night and become a sheeple while I lose myself in TV because I don't have anything else to do?

No. That's just not an option for me. I do have responsibilities, I've got people who depend on me to put food on the table, and I've got bills that I always pay. The Theatre has taken up a lot of my spare time, the commercial business is starting to take up more of my spare time, gradually.

In the next few months I see it really building more and more, when Beersnob gets back home I see it starting to skyrocket as I don't have to shoulder the entire thing. Right now it is manageable for one person though to handle but I can't grow it as it should be grown by myself. Well and not expect the kind of growth it is capable of by myself.

The only option left is to carry on, make sure The Date graduates college, make sure The Things get to college, and take the business as it comes. When Beersnob arrives back home we'll be more aggressive in pursuing business projects.

As for the theatre the project after this one will entitle me and The Date to a long break, likely a couple of months or more. There is Dearly Beloved (the one in which likely the whole family will be participating in, with me on tech and Thing 1 behind the stage) and Love Letters which is a simple show with about four light cues in front of the curtain. They asked and I said yes but it won't be weeks of rehearsal for me, it'll likely be one rehearsal and then showtime.

I've worked Caesar, Lil' Abner, Blithe Spirit, and will work Dearly Beloved, and Love Letters. That's essentially four and a half shows in a row. That's a lot of work. The only person who works on more shows is Tech Superman.

So yes a rest is in order until a show comes up that I can't say no to.

Work Week

This is a full week of work too, five days.

Monday - The week starts, most people are bummed about it. Me? I'm not. It's just another day. One more day scratched off of the calendar that counts down twelve more years. You have to get the week started or it'll never get done.

Tuesday - The day that was so boring that they had to spruce it up. They had to make it DVD Tuesday. All new releases come out today. This is the "Bread and Circus" day of the week.

Wednesday - Half way. The day that'll be the start of the downhill slope towards a two day respite. By Wednesday you realize you are on a treadmill.

Thursday - This is the easiest day of the week. It just flows by like a slow rolling river. Lazy but persistent it will come and go with barely a noticing glance from the participants.

Friday - Eight hours of anticipation, the realization that freedom and liberty are a mere eight hours away. This day is tough as you have to fight the urge to cut the day short and go home which quickly will dwindle your leave. Yet it remains, the gatekeeper of the end of the week. The guardian of forty eight hours to yourself with no demands from anyone.

Saturday - It's here. What you've worked for all week long. A chance to do what you want and when you want. If you want to sleep in (until around seven in my case) you can. The most free day of the week, this day was built for the working man.

Sunday - The day of preparation. You wash your clothes for the week. You temper the freedoms of Saturday with the responsibilities of tomorrow. You are still on the treadmill, it never shuts off.

Kindle Review And Stuff

Yesterday I mowed the lawn, edited and uploaded the clips from Friday evening, went to grocery store, made cucumber sandwich spread for Blithe Spirit, and then watched over the Tech Twins while reading The Date's new Kindle.

Yes I gave The Date a surprise early birthday present this past week with a third generation Kindle. She loves it! She said it feels like she was handed the keys to a super library. I got it so she could easily handle her text books but I'm unsure if it'll work for that or not now.

Yeah you can purchase them for the Kindle but at the same price and then what do you do with the files? At least most of the time you can sell back the text books.

I haven't read anything on a Kindle and didn't know if I would like it or not. So I downloaded Lucifer's Hammer and took it to the tech booth with me last night.

Surprisingly I really enjoyed it. It does take some getting used to though. The Kindle is super light, easy to hold (in fact it is easier to hold and manage than a regular book), can very easily be read in the brightest light, there isn't any eye strain produced after reading. I believe I could easily read on one for a very long time. You can change text size, have a text to speech option, download books via cell network for free, or use wifi. For the most part wifi is the way to go unless you are a super traveler and not around a hotspot. It saves you around fifty dollars not getting the 3G option but if you are a truck driver for example then 3G would definitely be the way to go! Amazon picks up the 3G bill too, it's free for life!

Most likely though you will easily find a wifi hotspot as they are very common in today's world.

I do need to purchase her a Kindle cover with a book light. The screen isn't back lit so it does need a lighting source. The battery life will last up to a month, which is really pretty incredible considering I charge my iPhone 3G maybe twice a day sometimes.

All in all I could actually get used to this and I think any reader would enjoy having one. It's really an amazing device!

Football for the biggest part starts today! Most of my two teams will take the field and mix it up! I've got a couple of players going tomorrow night so I've spread my players out.

Saturday, September 11, 2010

THAT Was A Busy Day

I got up pre-six o'clock, yeah I turned off the alarm before it went off to allow The Date to snooze in a bit more undisturbed. Next up was a busy day at work.

I got home and The Date had a dirty rice dish prepared! I ate just about all I could before I crossed the line to bursting. After supper I chilled for a few minutes then got the camera gear together and checked out.

I pulled the batter off of the charger, loaded up Thing 2, and off to the game we went for a paying gig shoot.

We got some good footage that I'll edit and post today. After we left the game I texted my tech crew and the director of the show, Filmmaker Friend Chris, and stopped at Sonic for drinks to take with us.

Made it to the theatre after dropping off The Date's large Dr. Pepper, right on time!

Curtain at eight, closing the show around eleven. We hung out backstage for a bit as The Date brought celebratory champagne to toast with.

Around eleven thirty I took Thing 2 home and we headed to The Pub to meet with a few cast members and friends. We left about a quarter to two.

My day quickly came to a close after The Date and I made it home.

Exhausted I fell into a deep sound sleep!

Friday, September 10, 2010

Finally Friday!

The NFL season kicked last night. I'm ahead in both games by the score of 4-2. Brees in my main money league and the Vikings D in the keeper league.

While I was attending dress rehearsal last night the Saints were beating the Vikings by a score of 14-9. Not the high scoring epic affair everyone was hoping for to open the season with.

Oh well, sometimes the machine has to warm up before it runs like it should. Fantasy wise it would have been better if Brees had had a tremendous game but he didn't. Missed chances cost me points which is the game I play. It's ok, I know by the end of the season he'll have thirty TDs and four thousand yards.

Work should be fairly busy today. I've got more than a handful to work on. It'll make the day go by fast but then I've got a shoot at six scheduled then I've got to rush to the theatre by seven to get things set up for opening night.

It'll be busy today.

The Season Is HERE!!!!!!!!

It's a rock'em sock'em thunderous Thursday with football not only NOT on the horizon but setting on your front lawn, ready to break down your door like a team of Marines looking for Al Qaeda!!!!!!!

Tonight a rematch of the epic playoff game from last year with Old Man River, Bret Favre leading the Vikings against Super Bowl Champs and national feel good story New Orleans Saints!!!

I'll try to catch the game and if not then the live scoring tonight while in the tech booth for Blithe Spirit. I'll be aware of what is happening though one way or the other!

I can't wait!

One Day Left

Tomorrow night I'll be in the tech booth of Blithe Spirit, watching the Saints and the Vikings on Justin.TV on my iPhone. If that doesn't work well enough I'll be following the scores and play by play stats as I'll have Brees and my defense playing tomorrow night.

Tech Teens C and J have done a pretty good job on the show so far. Tech Superman roughed in the cues with them last night while I reeled in Tech Superman so that the Teens could actually work on the lights:) Tech Superman can get carried away and do it all himself as he is very fast and efficient at the job.

By tonight the sound should be ironed out and everything will be good to go for final dress tomorrow night tech wise. That's our job and responsibility on this show and I'm there to make sure it happens. Well when I'm not following the game of course;)

Headed to work today after a nice four day weekend. Yesterday I went to the theatre at nine in the morning and we set the final lights in place, I painted some stuff, and generally put things into place for tech to be finished.

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

Last Day Off

I'm meeting Tech Superman at the theatre this morning and we'll finish up the lights. Tonight is about setting cues, we got a rough idea of what the show is supposed to be like last night. I contacted two teens who worked the teen show last season to run lights and sound for this.

They'll work out great. They love doing this stuff! The theatre needs a couple more tech crews that can work a show besides me and a small handful of others. One more show after this one and they'll have it down.

It's Tuesday, Thursday night is coming fast now! I've got an app downloaded for Justin.TV so I believe I can watch the Thursday night opening game on my iPhone in the tech booth. That's final dress rehearsal. Friday is opening night.

I already turned in my lineup for both teams. It's not necessary but still I did it because I'm anxious for the season to begin I guess.

The weekend has been nice so far even if we didn't take the planned road trip. The Date is still hurting badly though. It's getting worse daily. Ten days until she can get into the doctor and get treated with injections.

It's cloudy out, looks like there is a good sized drenching rain moving up from the south and might make it here by tonight if at all. Fall is upon us as it's noticeably darker out now than a couple of weeks ago. The temperatures will soon follow and then winter will be here, the cycle repeats itself.

Nothing

Nothing is going on. It's calm outside. Sunny. Beautifully nice.

A full day at set call yesterday looking for a matching sconce in earnest. I hung one on the wall and wired it. Couldn't find the match for it anywhere. So Weezy's Mom and I cut frames out of Styrofoam and put them together to hang on the muslin walls. They are very light, won't hurt the walls, and will look like they are supposed to.

I must have either stirred up a ton of old dust or caught a small head cold because my head was very congested yesterday. The past two evenings I've taken a bit of Nyquil to allow me to breathe while sleeping and blown my nose a thousand times.

Seems better this morning but that could be a Nyquil hangover instead of the cold going away.

Yawwwnnnnn

I slept in until nearly eight thirty this morning...
That never happens for me. I stayed up until midnight, took a little nyquil for congestion, and now I'm feeling really rested. Eight thirty? Me? Wow...

Played well last night, not great though. We started out ranked fifth in our league, fell a couple of spots, finished the night back up at fifth again. We actually played a gold league team, we lost but still the match system mechanics eludes me. It's just a mystery on how games are matched and advancement is done.

It's really nice outside right now. I'm sitting here with my cup of coffee and thinking about having a morning cigar to kick the day off. Beersnob sent me a few really really nice cigars a few weeks ago and they've been in the humidor long enough to get over being shipped now.

Fall is nearly upon us now. I love me some fall, the crisp air and mild temperatures, football of course, and more football! I really think my teams have a good shot at contending this season. Keeper league team is a bit weaker no doubt but my main money team is strong and balanced as I've blogged about. Thursday can't get here fast enough!

I'm going to spend some time in the booth this show. I've got the tech crew covered and we'll be programming cues Monday night. I've worked with this crew before and they are good. I helped train them in fact. They love the work, they love the challenge like me. After this show with me hanging with them I think any director will be able to utilize them without Tech Superman or me being around!

They'll be really good!

Less Than One Week

Until the kickoff of the NFL season! Vikings/Saints lead the way this season! I'll have at least Drew Brees in that game for sure and I'll have someone in the Monday night game as well! The rest of my lineup will be mostly on Sunday.

It'll be nice to have someone in each day of games to watch! I feel really good about my teams this season. The Keeper is very RB dependent though, the bigger money league is a very balanced team and should do well.

No road trip this weekend, The Date is barely able to sit in class without dealing with lots of back and neck pain. No way she'll be able to deal with a six hour trip. It'll be another time now.

Regardless of not having a road trip there is a planned get together at Chianti's house Saturday evening that we will be attending for football.
I still have four days off after today.
Football season is upon us.
It's very nice outside right now, no super hot weather or anything.
My 3V3 Starcraft team is now ranked fifth out of one hundred in our league after a very strong evening of playing. The Reaper Rush strategy was really clicking for us last night.
So there is a lot to be thankful for:)

Possible Road Trip For Labor Day

I've got a road trip planned for Labor Day weekend, starting Saturday morning and we'll be coming back Monday. I can't tell where as I've been keeping the location a secret from The Date and I don't even think The Things know about it yet.

It'll be a good time though! Someone is going to work a double shift where The Date works to cover for her early morning work Saturday. I don't have to go back to work until Wednesday next week so I've got four days off.

Everything is going well:) Tech Superman and I hung the chandelier last night around five thirty for Blithe Spirit. At one point I was holding the thing up with my extended arm, for a couple of minutes, while at least ten feet in the air on a tall ladder. Stength...I haz itz. We rigged it to be able to be jiggled around and safety wired it to a chain.

It really looks good though! We turned it on, went up to the booth and turned on all the lights, adjusted the levels a little bit, and now it's ready for cues to be entered.

I'm Proud

Yeah The Date and Thing 2 did the second round of auditioning last night for the show Dearly Beloved. They both got parts! That was Thing 2's first audition in which she wasn't scared.

It'll be the first show since school for The Date, she was very nervous but got a lead role! Theatre King kept on talking her into it and she relented and I'm glad she did! Even if not cast she would have regretted not auditioning.

So Theatre King, I'll take care of the lights in the booth, it'll be a near whole family experience for us! Two on stage, one lighting them.

All in all, well along with a great thunderstorm to sent August out and usher in September, it was a good evening! We had a losing streak in 3V3 in Starcraft which we ended last night, we won two, lost three.

It'll be a good day as those two will be on Cloud 9 all day long!
