Since working on the Coke project I have noticed a unusual and interesting trend. That trend is the abundance of contests as commercials.
I know of at least two other brand products who are requesting people submit a commercial for their product. This is actually a win win situation.
First it is like a talent search for untapped talent. Many people will see someone else's vision for a product that many ad agencies might completely miss which can only benefit the product.
The other side is the potential for stardom for a young fimmaker to break in and catch the eye of someone who can give a helping hand....plus some prize money that can help fund a project.
I do hope this trend continues but as with anything it will attract those who just go out and buy a camera and believe they are the next Hitchcock or Capra or worse yet don't even know enough to know who those two are....sigh....
