While watching last night I had the revelation that the NBA Finals will likely be Lakers/Magic.
Everyone on sports radio had the Finals as an either Lakers/Cavs (which is what the NBA could hype more) or Magic/Nuggets. That is the matchup I was hoping for. It seems no one allowed for Lakers/Magic as the Nuggets seem to be faltering a little now.
With last night's win Denver has to win two games back to back to make it to the finals while Cleveland has to win three straight against the much better Magic and superstar Dwight Howard.
Kobe vs. Dwight Howard will be a great Finals. Kobe who is arguably the best closer in the game today and a little past his peak years against a superstar who has got a couple of years to go before he gets to his peak years. Fresh legs vs. experience. Yeah LeBron against Kobe would be a great matchup to watch but really would it be that great if the series only went four games?
Cleveland is a matchup nightmare against the Lakers, they would dominate three out of five positions while the Nuggets really maybe have one out of five now and are down in the series. Billups owns whomever the Lakers throw at him. They have no answer for Billups at all.
Look for a Lakers/Magic Finals and for it to go to seven games. It might very well be one of the more interesting Finals in a few seasons. You will be witness (to borrow a marketing phrase) to the rise of one of the NBA's best superstars in waiting in Dwight Howard.
