Jerry Falwell And David Allan Coe

Never thought you'd see those two in the same place together but hey this is my blog and I can put them there if I want to.

First off Reverend Jerry Falwell died today. He was a polarizing figure, even among Christians but he was a genuinely good guy who wasn't afraid to take his beliefs and share them with anyone. He united a large portion of America and gave them a political voice in a time when a large part of America felt they didn't have a voice. He was 73 and he did a lot of good for a lot of people. Rest in peace Reverend.

Today my Netflix selection is David Allan Coe live at Billy Bob's!!!! DAC is also a very polarizing figure who has written over two hundred songs I believe that have been recorded by Waylon, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Pantera, Willie Nelson, and a dozen other stars.

He is largely overlooked for his contributions to country/outlaw music and revels in that fact. He'll never be recognized for being one of the most influential singer songwriters of all time. You can just google his name and see why. His infamous XXX album will give you an idea of how his career started.

A lot of DAC is myth, a lot is fact, only he knows for sure what is real and what isn't.

Is he a racist? Don't know, he has a black drummer and a guitar with the Stars and Bars colors on it. You make the call.

Has he been in prison as he claims? Don't know, he swears up and down he has but there are no official records of it.

Is he a legend? Yes, in a way. He is an underground legend in the vein of the Ramones or the Sex Pistols. He is punk, he is an outlaw, he is controversial, and he is one of country music's biggest enigmas. He is a workaholic but you'll never see him at the CMAs or the Grammy's even though he has probably written songs for the winners.
