Hurricanes

So Abostang and I were chatting over lunch yesterday and we thought it would be very cool to experience the full force of a hurricane someday. If there was one headed to the gulf coast but not New Orleans then we thought we'd drive down to experience one of nature's most incredible forces.

We'd pack up a few cases of bottled water and some food things first to help with relief efforts but just to get there and experience something that is naturally forceful would be a lifetime memory. Since Irene is the first hurricane since 2008 that appears will make landfall on the continental U.S. then it might be a wait.

Irene does look very powerful though and appears right now that it will rip up the eastern seaboard, up to Canada. D.C., New York, Boston, many Northern cities that don't typically experience hurricanes are potentially in the path of Irene. High winds, flooding, and debris damage will paralyze those places for a while if it is anything above a tropical depression by the time it gets there.

Irene should have landfall this weekend, I hope those first strike communities are prepared!
