NASA's Wacky Sense Of Humor

I was watching the NASA channel the other day, I wish I had blogged about it then but I didn't. Anyway it was live mission coverage of the International Space Station or ISS.

The astronauts were unpacking a piece of exercise machinery and having problems with a bolt. They were taking off the launch restraint packing and a bolt that had the nut taken off was in a bind. The astronaut had tried a punch and hammer, vice grips, and a pry bar. It still was in a bind so they talked to mission control about the problem and mission control was really trying to be helpful with the most obvious things such as a pry bar.

At one point the NASA engineer mentioned that there were activists concerned about the welfare of any sardines being harmed in the removal of the bolt. The astronaut misinterpreted the remark as serious and thought it was about them being sardines in the ISS. So essentially it was joke fail.

It was really fascinating to see this happen. I had to leave while this drama was happening so I am not sure if the astronauts got the bolt removed to assemble the exercise machine or not.

The things you will see on the NASA channel....
